IP

This morning, Krystal’s laptop wouldn’t connect to the wireless network at my mom’s place, but mine would.  It appeared that the problem was that hers was stuck in autoconfig and couldn’t get an IP, so I just assigned it a random IP relatively high in the 192.168.1.* range and used Google DNS et voila, Internet.  

Makes you realize how fragile networking infrastructure is.  You want some random IP that you chose out of thin air?  Sure!  Wait, did you just collide my web server/search appliance/NAS?  Oh well, I guess you needed the IP more than it did.
